Character

In alphabetical order: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gewurztraminer, Merlot, and Riesling. Some more than others.

The only rosé you may ever need again. Beyond fresh. Uber fragrant. Hyper-digestible. Inspired by Cerasuolo and Tavel styles with huge fruit, depth, power and grace. Forward cherry notes, segueing to raspberries, strawberries and juicy Babygold peaches. Zest for days.

Vineyard Origins

A ‘field blend’ assembled in cellar. Single vineyard rosé grown along the Niagara Parkway over a mix of sandy and clay loams. Vines go back to 1992; average vine age is approximately 20 years. Though the individual components were harvested/fermented individually with stainless steel tank marriage in January. Nothing fancy after that.

Behind the Music

2022 was a tremendous growing season. Sun was incredible and disease pressure was limited. (Not like 2020, but better than the average year.) Vineyard yields were light though, with some grapes barely offering fruit.

In tasting components with the winemaking team, I picked up on a through-line of absolute vitality. It’s not rocket science. Sometimes the wine that needs to be bottled just jumps out of the glass. A young, bright, drink-me-now Rosé kept emerging as the wine I wanted from this vintage.

More importantly, while the separate wine components were delicious on their own, they truly thrived together – as incongruous as they may have seemed on paper. Don’t get bogged down in guessing the variety percentages… just enjoy/embrace the result. Bottled May 4th, 2023.
